Lew Palter, actor in 'Titanic,' has died

Lew Palter, a seasoned character actor best remembered for appearing in James Cameron's "Titanic," has died.

He was 94. The Hollywood Reporter states that Palter passed away on May 21 from lung cancer.

In the 1981 film First Monday in October, starring Walter Matthau, Jill Clayburgh, and Barnard Hughes, he played one of the Supreme Court judges.

He also wore a robe for appearances on The Flying Nun, Hill Street Blues, and L.A. Law.

On the 1976–1977 CBS television series Delvecchio, starring Judd Hirsch, he also played an LAPD detective.

Palter joined CalArts in 1971 and worked there as an acting instructor and director until he retired in 2013.
